Description

Shiraz Gabbeh is a traditional handwoven rug made by the Qashqai nomads of Fars Province in southern Iran. It is known for its simple designs, thick pile and distinctive handmade character. These rugs are inspired by nature, animals and the everyday life of nomadic communities.

Geometric motifs, abstract shapes and simple symbolic patterns are among the main features of Shiraz Gabbeh. Most designs are created spontaneously from the weaver’s imagination rather than following a predetermined pattern.

Natural hand-spun wool is the primary material used in Gabbeh weaving. Its thick, long pile and relatively coarse weave provide softness, comfort and durability.

Shiraz Gabbeh, with its simplicity, nomadic heritage and unique designs, represents an important part of Iran’s traditional handmade carpet art.
